Liberation Day
Today – May 25th, 2018 – is a holiday in Ghana to celebrate Africa Day.
Africa Day is also known as African Liberation Day or African Freedom Day. This day is to commemorate the foundation of the Organization of African Unity on the 25th of May 1963.
Now, this holiday is dubbed
African Union Day.
This holiday is not only celebrated in Ghana, but this is also a day where the AU – African Union – comes together to celebrate and acknowledge the successes of the Organisation of African Unity.
Today I Rep Ghana, my motherland.
I am PROUD TO BE GHANAIAN.
not because it is now a mainstream “claim”
or because I need something to cling to make me “exotic”
not because it is one of the fastest growing countries in West Africa
nor because of the Azonto…
But because it is my birthright, my heritage, my heart, and tongue.
I am thankful to Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah, the Big Six for helping liberate Ghana from her colonizers, for helping change the lives of many Ghanaians.
I am grateful to my ancestors who struggled to grant me the freedom I currently have.
HAPPY AFRICA DAY!
